Winnersh in the Snow

by Prue Bray on 7 January, 2010

The post box in Robin Hood Lane looks lovely, but conditions are really treacherous out.   What I know so far about travel conditions follows.

snow January 2010

Reading Road appears to have been gritted.  Gritting has been cut back because of salt stocks running low – we told  the Tories as long ago as last Februaray this was likely to happen – plus the difficult conditions (not their fault I suppose).  Complicated by the fact that grit has no effect if temperatures are below -6°C.

Robin Hood Lane and King Street Lane are usually on the list to be gritted but I have no information as to whether they are being done.  In any case, none of the residential roads are being treated, which means it is almost impossible to get out onto the gritted roads.

SW Trains are running on the Reading/Waterloo line, but with delays.  You can look up what’s happening on their live updates at http://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/live-service-information.aspx .

The only Thames Travel bus that is running is the 144 and ALL Thames Travel services will be stopping at 7 pm.  News available at http://www.thames-travel.co.uk    Loddon Bridge Park and Ride is closed and no Reading Bus services appear to be running in this area.  FirstGroup appear to be running the 190 service, but not at the Bracknell end – see   http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/southeast/berkshirethames/service_disruptions/

The local schools are shut, and there will not be any rubbish collections for the time being.

I don’t know whether Winnersh library will be opening or not yet – it is not due to open until 2 pm.  The number is 974 7979 if you want to phone them after 2 pm to check.
