That was the strangest of elections.
And it has delivered the strangest of results. Namely, that nobody particularly likes any of the parties. That support for Labour and Conservatives is split geographically. That the Lib Dems got nearly a quarter of the votes but only an eighth of the seats.
And – disgracefully – some people were not able to cast their vote.
In the General Election campaign I got more actual votes than I got in 2005, but my share of the vote went down.
In the local election campaign I got more actual votes than I got in 2006 – and my share of the vote went up.
The Lib Dems gained a seat – the first time we have taken a seat from the Tories in the May elections since 2000 (though we have gained a seat in a by-election since then).
Compared to the last set of local elections in Wokingham in 2008, the Tories did quite badly. What does this tell us? Who knows!
