Before the debate on Thursday, John Redwood was predicting the whole thing would be dull.   It turned out to be anything but.  Nick Clegg came out the clear winner and the Lib Dems got an enormous boost in the opinion polls, overtaking Labour and moving into second place – only 3% behind the Tories according to The Sun.

But what about the impact on the doorstep?

Well, I have lost count of the number of people I have spoken to in the last 2 days who have thought Nick Clegg did well.  And more importantly, our canvass returns are telling us that we are picking up lots of new Lib Dem voters.
