Forthcoming works on the M4

by Prue Bray on 11 June, 2014

Had some information from the Highways Agency about forthcoming roadworks on the M4 locally.  Please note, some of them appear to overlap with the period 23rd July – 3rd September, when Wokingham Borough Council is planning major works on the A 329 (M).  So there is a  possibility of extra delays.

M4 Junction 8/9 to 10 Resurfacing
Works: Resurfacing approximately 3 miles of the M4 east and westbound carriageways between Junction 10 (Wokingham) and Shurlock Row
Dates: 13 June to 9 July on the eastbound carriageway and 18 June to 3 July on the westbound carriageway
Traffic Management: Work on the eastbound carriageway will be undertaken using overnight lane closures, and work on the westbound carriageway will be undertaken using full overnight road closures. During the closures a clearly signed diversion route will be in place along the A404(M), A4 and A329(M) – this route is approximately 16 miles and we would advise you allow an additional 15 to 20 minutes to your journey time depending on your final destination

M4 Junctions 8/9 to 10 Drainage Maintenance
Works: Work will involve maintenance to the filter drainage and kerbing, re-profiling the verges and repairing drainage defects
Dates: Tuesday 1 July to mid-November 2014
Traffic Management: The hard-shoulder will be closed 24 hours a day and there will be overnight lane closures on both the east and westbound carriageways

M4 Junctions 10 to 11 Bridge Refurbishment
Works: Work will involve replacing the joints, re-waterproofing and resurfacing the Southern Region Railway Bridge, the A329 Reading Road Bridge, the B3030 King Street Lane Bridge and the Mill Lane Bridge
Dates: July to November 2014
Traffic Management: There will be a 24 hour contraflow system with narrow lanes and a speed restriction on both the east and westbound carriageways, overnight lane closures and occasional full overnight slip road closures at Junction 10

M4 Junction 10 Congestion Improvement Scheme
Works: A scheme will be taking place to improve the merges from the M4 slip roads onto the A329(M) at junction 10
Dates: Summer 2014 to Spring 2015
Traffic Management: Confirmed details of the traffic management requirements will be available on the scheme webpage at a later date
Webpage: www.highways.gov.uk/m4j10

Please be aware that the dates for all these schemes have been carefully programmed but may change due to circumstances beyond our control (e.g. adverse weather, unplanned emergency works).

Overnight closures of the motorways and slip roads will be carefully planned to keep overall disruption to a minimum. Advance warning of the confirmed closure dates will be displayed on black and yellow signs along the M4 and A329(M).
