We got a huge response to our Waste & Recycling survey earlier this year, and from what people told us we are pretty confident we have identified the main issues. And a lot of smaller niggles as well.
We have had to make some decisions about what it is realistic to try to change. A complete new system is just not on the cards. But we think there is scope to make some improvements. And we will work towards some of the longer term changes that people want.
The top three issues have come out as:
- the green waste is far too expensive
- the blue bags are not good enough: too flimsy and not stretching across a dustbin
- people want to be able to recycle a wider range of items
The Lib Dems recognise that money is tight and that any changes made will have to be affordable and cost effective. This may limit the scope of what can be done. But we hope we will be able to work constructively together with Conservative councillors to get the changes residents want to see.
